The short answer

There is no hidden seller fee. Vinted makes its money from buyers, who pay a mandatory Vinted fee on top of your price at checkout, and from optional extras such as Bumps, Showcase and verification services. The real catch is indirect: because buyers pay more than your price and sellers list for free, prices are lower and offers are common, your money is held until the buyer confirms, and buyers can open claims. For most people clearing out a wardrobe, it is still the cheapest way to sell clothes.

How does Vinted make money?

Vinted is a profitable business. In April 2026 it reported 2025 revenue of about €1.1 billion, up 38%, on €10.8 billion of goods sold through the marketplace, and net profit of €62 million.

None of that comes from a seller commission. Here is where it does come from.

The Vinted fee is the important one. It is added to the buyer’s total, includes VAT, and varies with the item, the order value and whether it is a bundle. Vinted says it funds running the platform, safer transactions, member support and its refund policy for lost, damaged or significantly not-as-described items from non-professional sellers. For the full maths on what you keep, see Vinted fees explained.

What do sellers give up on Vinted?

Zero commission is real. These are the trade-offs that come with it.

01

Buyers pay more than your price

The buyer sees your price plus the Vinted fee plus shipping. A £15 item can feel like a £20 item at checkout, so buyers judge your price against that total.

02

Lower prices and an offers culture

Listing is free, so supply is enormous and buyers expect a bargain. Offers and bundle discounts are part of everyday selling. Price with room to negotiate, or state firmly that the price is fair.

03

Your money waits for the buyer

Payment is held until the order completes: the buyer confirms, or 2 days pass after delivery without a claim. Then it takes up to 2 days to reach your balance and up to 5 business days to reach your bank.

04

Claims and returns

Buyers have 2 days after delivery to report an item as lost, damaged or significantly not as described. The order is suspended while you sort it out, and Vinted support decides if you cannot agree.

05

Rules, ID checks and restrictions

Payment providers can ask for ID before you withdraw, and listings or accounts that break the Catalogue Rules can be hidden or restricted. You are selling on someone else’s platform.

06

Less control over shipping

You must ship with the buyer’s chosen carrier and Vinted’s prepaid label within 5 business days. Custom shipping is a legacy option no longer available for new listings on vinted.com.

How returns and disputes work for sellers

Vinted is not a no-questions-asked returns platform for private sellers. Its refund policy covers orders that were not delivered or were lost, arrived damaged, or are significantly not as described, and the buyer must press “I have an issue” within 2 days of delivery. Once the buyer confirms or the window passes, the payment goes to you and refunds are no longer possible.

  • Not covered: items that do not fit or suit the buyer, minor differences that do not affect the look or use, and items damaged after delivery.
  • Your options: offer a full or partial refund (sometimes letting the buyer keep the item), cover return shipping with a Vinted label, or let Vinted support decide.
  • Return shipping: usually paid by the buyer, who must send the item back within 5 business days of the return request, in the same condition.
  • Pro sellers are different: buyers have the legal 14-day right of withdrawal, and orders complete 14 days after delivery.

The best defence is the listing itself. Show flaws clearly, give measurements, and photograph the item and the packed parcel before you send it.

Account restrictions and ID checks

To withdraw money, Vinted’s payment providers may ask you to verify your identity under Know Your Customer rules, and withdrawals pause until you do. Separately, Vinted can hide listings or restrict accounts that break its rules. Rule breaks such as prohibited items or taking deals off the platform are typical triggers. If it happens to you, our Vinted account appeal guide walks through what to send. For the payout side, see how Vinted payouts work.

Why Vinted is still good for sellers

Once you know the trade-offs, the case for Vinted is strong, especially for everyday clothes.

You keep 100% of the price

No listing fee and no commission. On platforms that take a percentage, a higher price is taxed; on Vinted every extra pound or euro is yours.

Shipping is handled

The buyer pays for a prepaid label, you drop the parcel off, and Vinted tracks it. Lost or damaged parcels sent with the label can be compensated (up to £500 in the UK).

Buyers trust it

The buyer-paid fee funds a refund policy, which makes strangers more willing to buy second-hand from you.

The catch with Vinted: answered

What’s the catch with Vinted?

Sellers pay no commission, but buyers pay a Vinted fee and shipping on top of your price, which pushes prices down and makes offers common. Your money is held until the buyer confirms the order, buyers can open claims for items not as described, and accounts can be restricted or asked for ID. None of these are hidden fees for sellers.

How does Vinted make money if sellers pay no fees?

Mainly from the mandatory Vinted fee buyers pay at checkout (in the UK usually 3–8% plus £0.30–£0.80; in euro markets and the US usually 5% plus €0.70 or $0.70). It also earns from optional seller promotions (Bumps and Showcase), optional verification services, and runs its own parcel network, Vinted Go, in several European countries.

Is Vinted really free for sellers?

Yes for regular sellers: no listing fee and no commission, and the price you sell for is what reaches your Vinted Balance. Optional costs are Bumps and Showcase. In the UK, Mangopay has announced a £30 yearly fee on balances left inactive for 24 months.

Is the Vinted fee the same as the Buyer Protection fee?

It is the same buyer-paid fee. Vinted’s current price lists call it the Vinted fee, a mandatory platform fee that, among other things, funds the refund policy for lost, damaged or significantly not-as-described items from non-professional sellers.

Can buyers return items on Vinted?

Only if the item is lost, damaged or significantly not as described, and they report it within 2 days of delivery. “It doesn’t fit” is not covered, though a seller may still agree to a return. Buyers usually pay return shipping. Pro sellers face the legal 14-day right of withdrawal.

Is Vinted safe for sellers?

Reasonably, if you stay inside the system: use Buy now and the prepaid label, describe flaws honestly and photograph the item and packaging. Parcels sent with Vinted’s label are covered up to the carrier’s limits if lost or damaged (up to £500 in the UK). Deals or payments outside Vinted are not protected.

Why are prices on Vinted so low?

Buyers see your price plus the Vinted fee and shipping, sellers pay nothing to list so supply is huge, and offers are part of the culture. Good photos and accurate descriptions help you hold a fair price rather than compete on discount.
